Tie Rod

Tie Rods are the most basic of rods that are only designed to withstand ultimate static loads. Tie rods are widely used in modern aircraft and are manufactured in numerous configurations. Tie rods help attach galleys in place, support storage bins, buttress bulk heads or adjust aircraft skins for optimum shape. Tie rods are the cartilage that holds airplanes together. Design considerations are mostly dependent on ultimate static strength, cost and ease in rigging. Tie rods seldom require inserts and are most often turnbuckle configurations for quick efficient rigging. Most commonly used materials are 2024 aluminum and 304 stainless steel.
